Dottie’s Market is one of best places in Savannah, Georgia to enjoy house-cured charcuterie. Here I bring you my experience with this hidden Gem.
UPDATE! Wednesday, April 30th, 2025: After a few months of being closed “for a winter break,” Dottie’s has announced the permanent closure of their Broughton Street location. However, their message feels more like a “see you later” than a goodbye. I’ll update you with their new location and menu offerings as soon as they become available.
Thanks for visiting a local guide! This was a go-to spot for my husband and me, and it was always a magical experience—so I’m keeping this article right here, waiting for the day they reappear.
A Savannah bartender’s perspective.
Savannah is undeniably a foodie town, and the competition is fierce – I get it. As a bartender at Alligator Soul, one of the city’s top restaurants, my job is often very satisfying. With patrons repeatedly praising the delectable food and drinks, I often find myself simply giving them recommendations, crafting cocktails, and letting them have a blissful experience.
It wasn’t always like this.
For the past decade, I’ve worked in numerous fine dining restaurants in Savannah before finally discovering a place where I take pride in my work due to both the exceptional food quality and the positive workplace culture. The thing is, if you are not passionate about what you do, you can’t do it right.
You can’t fake passion. That excitement and glimmer in your eyes when you talk about something that you love or you believe in.
It has to be real.
All the big players vs. Dottie’s
Visitors often ask me for other restaurant recommendations. And I understand the allure of seeking out the classics and historical delicacies when visiting this city – places like The Pink House, Vic’s on the River, and Elizabeth’s on 37th. Even Alligator Soul, a local favorite for 21 years, falls into this category and stands out as truly remarkable.

And yet, after experiencing so many restaurants in this city, as a guest and as a bartender, I’ve discovered a gem that deserves LOTS of attention 💎 Dottie’s Market opened its doors in March 2023 and quickly established itself as one of Broughton Street’s premier spots for an amazing lunch experience or to quickly get something delicious from their grab-and-go selection.

Market + Restaurant = MAGIC ✨✨✨
It also helps that Dottie’s Market is basically our next door neighbor. As a bartender, I find myself recommending it consistently to visitors.
Guests: “Where should we go tomorrow for lunch?!”
Me: “Oh go over there for amazing food!! Best place to get some Charcuterie in Savannah!”
And then I point in Dottie’s direction with my finger. I’m sharing it here so that you can have the best experience in this city that we love.

Dottie’s Market = Over There.
Offering a delightful blend of reinvented low country classics, delicious treats, and a beautiful ambiance, Dottie’s Market won me over at first visit.

Beyond the initial gourmet lunch allure, Dottie’s expanded into dinner service, transforming into a fine dining experience within a very intimate environment.
So, what’s so special about getting this specific charcuterie board in Savannah?

House-cured Charcuterie Magic
What sets Dottie’s Market apart is Chef Chris – not just a culinary artist, but also a charcutier!
The French word for a person who practices charcuterie is charcutier. This means he cures his own meats in house for his famed charcuterie board, appetizers and sandwiches.
And let me tell you, doing this is no walk in the park.
The only time he buys cured meats is when his demand is higher than what he can cure in house!
He told me the story on how he navigated a complex process involving certification, permits, interviews, and the acquisition of mandatory refrigeration equipment. The meats need to be kept at a specific temperature until they are fully cured.
This makes Dottie’s market the best experience for a charcuterie board in Savannah: Not only the process but the artistry and science behind it.
It took him over eight months, immense patience, a substantial financial investment, and countless emails to comply with all legalities and safety regulations for selling his cured meats and charcuterie.

Honestly, my will and desire to express my culinary artistry would have been crushed by the amount of red tape involved, but not for chef Chris.
I even asked him if any other restaurant was offering their own house-cured charcuterie. But with such an exhausting process he said he highly doubts it.
This is a great example of how if you believe in something, keep at it for months and give it your all, and don’t let any bureaucratic maze kill your spirit. And maybe if you get past all the nonsense, you might be able to create something magical.
A True Gem in Savannah.
For a small restaurant with thin profit margins, situated on a downtown street with exorbitant rent and high business turnover, the resilience and dedication displayed by Dottie’s Market is nothing short of magnanimous.
Chef Chris Meenan, in my book, has proven himself one of the best chefs in the city. His dedication to crafting his own products, combined with his wife Ericka Phillips’ warm hospitality and tastefully decorated setting, makes Dottie’s Market a must-visit for those seeking taste, quality, and beauty.

Grabbing some wine with your charcuterie board.
From the best house-cured charcuterie in town with house-made pickled veggies and house-made bread (ridiculous bread), to fine-dining level specialties, their offerings are incomparable. Personally, it has become a Sunday favorite for my husband and me.
Things to note: Not only is this some of the best food in town, but it is also a unique wine experience. You can go select your bottle (as you would, in a gourmet market shelf), give it to your server and they will open it for you to enjoy. Also, an amazing selection of French wines at very reasonable prices: I’m a super fan girl, if you can’t already tell.

The Locals are Smitten.
Dottie’s Market has earned a loyal following that can only be earned in this foodie city full of amazing options to choose from. No amount of marketing can buy you that! They definitively have my vote and my loyalty.
Wondering when to visit?? I recommend Dottie’s Market at any time of the day: for a morning coffee and house-made pastry, an amazing lunch experience in-house or to-go, stocking up for a picnic or office treats.
In the evening, indulge in a full gourmet dining experience, or start your night with a bang by enjoying a charcuterie board and a glass of wine while bar hopping.
