Hello! Wishing everyone an amazing Self-Care Sunday. The ‘Self-Care Sundays’ series were inspired for people who work in the service industry, like me. However, they also serve as a guide for what to do in Savannah on a Sunday!

Given that many restaurants and attractions are closed on Sundays in Savannah, it can sometimes be tricky to find activities for the day.
If you are new here, start with my Guide to Self-Care Sundays to set yourself up for success and learn what Self-Care Sundays are all about!

It’s Easter Sunday, and last night, after getting off work, I bumped into two friends. They were in the mood for jokes and indulging in a few naked shots.
Naked Shots = Just liquor. No chasers, no mixers, no fruit, not chilled.
And then, we decided to play ‘Never Have I Ever’… of all things.
(I know, what are we, 12 years old? Apparently…)
I’m sure I learned some kinky secrets about them, but for my life, I can’t remember any of them…
Truthfully, on this Self-Care Sunday, all I wanted to do was stay home and cuddle with my cat. No chores, no outings, just pure relaxation.
But that’s my own fault.
I’ve been consciously avoiding alcohol during the week for health reasons. It’s a bit like the advice to ‘eat more greens’ or ‘drink eight glasses of water daily,’ which is a lot harder than it sounds 🤦♀️. I don’t think I’ve consumed the proper amount of water I need in months… #goals
This means that one shot of tequila will get me feeling five levels of drunk. I’m a very cheap date at the moment. Remember when we were 20 and could drink 14 green tea shots and two bottles of cheap, sugary wine? Sorry, wine in a box, not even bottles, and still function like normal humans the next day?
Yeah… not today.
So, the goal for today is to get out of the house.
First and foremost… Take a shower. Wash away that shame and tequila from your hair. Sheesh…
I have three goals for this Self-Care Sunday:
- Walk at least 3 miles.
- Indulge in something sweet. Maybe a coconut water too… to help with the hangover.
- Enjoy something savory.
Today’s goals don’t involve books or movies. Just a nice walk and a couple of treats.
Let’s do it:
Forsyth Park with lost balloons 🎈 and Italian Soda 🥤
If you’ve read my guide to Self-Care Sunday, you know how important it is to take a nice walk on this day. Whether it’s having a picnic, reading a book, watching a movie, or even kidnapping some friends, the walk is a crucial part of self-care.
Besides, we live in such a beautiful, walkable city, and sometimes we forget that. At least…I forget. In 2020, I bought a car and didn’t take a walk for 3 months. Did anyone move to Savannah because it’s so beautiful and walkable?
So, I asked Oisin (my husband) if he wanted to join me, and being the best, he’s always down for a walk.
We started on Habersham and 33rd street and walked to The Sentient Bean.

How Many Dollars? $1 to $20 Something Delicious to Get Here: Egg and Cheese Croissant. |
After just one block, I felt like death and told Oisin, ‘Never mind, baby, let’s go back home. I just want to crawl back into bed and cuddle with my kitten.’
He smiled and ignored whatever I was saying.

I grabbed an Italian coconut cream soda for the walk. I really wanted a coconut water from Brighter Day to help with last night’s indulgences, but it was 6:12 PM and they were closed 😰😭😭.

Note to self: Brighter Day closes at 6 PM on Sundays. Remember this for future Self-Care Sundays.

We walked all the way through the center of Forsyth Park and saw a little kid lose his balloons 🎈 while being a brat to his mom.

Strangely satisfying.
Continued walking all the way downtown… and passed by Shop SCAD, which was closed. But I can’t imagine anyone putting this piece of artwork in their living room…

Maybe in their kitchen? What do you think?
Doki Doki with Cheesy Figs, Please.
We kept walking down Bull St and passed the VERY busy and completely packed Collins Quarter. I’ve never been there for dinner, just once or twice for very overpriced avocado toast. Also, I remember them opening and Anthony (the owner) punching one of his employees… So there’s that aftertaste…
But right next to it, there’s Doki Doki, and I’ve never tried it.

It looks insanely bright and colorful inside, and I wonder… this is cool for a minute, but all that bright fluorescence would drive me nuts after an hour. A whole shift? Oh no…

They have inventive flavors, and they are kind enough to let you taste whatever you want.
We get a Mascarpone and fig scoop, because when you ask me ” What kind of ice-cream flavor would you like?” I’m like “Cheese sounds good.”

Delicious! Even though I’m still partial to Leopold’s. I love me some Leopold’s.
Honestly, this spoon though… should I wash this spoon and reuse it? This doesn’t look or feel like something I should be throwing away. I wonder if they spend more money on their spoons than on their ice cream…

I take a bite and I’m done – Okay, I’m a terrible hangover person – but happily, I brought myself a husband along the way to eat all the ice cream. He devours the whole thing in 5 seconds… I try to get a comment? How was it? What did you like about it? You know… for the peeps reading this article.
He said, “It was ice cream. I ate it. Yummy.”
That’s all you get, friends.
Beautiful Sights and Illegal Love Locks.
We keep walking all the way to Factors Walk, and I notice the locks for the first time…

I think someone is selling locks and telling the people who buy them that this is just like Pont des Arts in Paris.

“And then there’s this:

Forbidden love it is. Is your eternal love gesture worth $50? Given by the amount of locks, it is worth at least that.
Nobody does what they are supposed to do anymore.

Spanky’s Spuds = Comfort Food.
We walk down to River Street and go into Spanky’s. I remember going here when I moved to Savannah in 2005 and having spuds for dirt cheap…

You can still order a basket of spuds for $5. Outstanding.

A man angrily orders a side of ranch with extra ranch. He might have been about 75 and not willing to wait another damn second for all that ranch. 🤣 Also, “make sure my first course salad comes before my entree, young lady” This man forgot he is at Spanky’s.

Also, Spanky’s has a happy hour Monday thru Thursday. 4.30pm to 7pm. $3 Miller lights and Well liquors. So, you can do River Street on a budget if you want.
If Miller light and well liquor is not your thing, you can go next door to Lizzie’s who has $5 margaritas all day every day.

Sipping Sparkling Water at Bar Julian.
We walked along the river all the way to the Thompson Hotel. This walk is peaceful and beautiful. I’ve never walked this way before; I have only driven or taken an Uber to the Thompson Hotel.

I remember when the walkway ended a little bit after the Waving Girl statue. Now it goes all the way to the Thompson Hotel and further. It’s a pretty amazing walk!

I can’t remember the last time I had food at Bar Julian. It is a beautiful night out with perfect temperatures, so we are going for the views.

How Many Dollars?? $10 to $100 Something Delicious to Get Here: Their Flatbreads are amazing! |
This bar is a bit expensive, but worth it! The beautiful views, the lovely space, and the delicious food.
One of my favorite things to do, when I feel like celebrating, is coming to this rooftop and ordering a bottle of Spanish Cava. It is not very expensive but feels so luxurious. I love doing this in Manhattan when I visit NYC as well. Bubbles in rooftop bars is my fetish.
Oisin gets a Negra Modelo, and I ask for Pellegrino… or Perrier? Nope, they have Sarasota, and it comes in wine glasses. As I said, Rooftops + Bubbles is my idea of luxury.

We get a flatbread to share, and it comes with its own side bottle of chili oil. Yummy.

It is a very nice flatbread to share, a great size and under $20. We just enjoy the views and then walk back home.
Oisin whispers in my ear playfully that my water costs more than his beer. I whisper back, “Yeah, baby, the best water for me, haha. I’m worth it”.
Can’t go to the Ritz and complain about Ritz prices. I playfully tell him to shut up 🤣. He is starting to sound like those pilots that come to my bar and ask how much a shot of Whistle Pig 18-year is and then claim they can buy the whole bottle with that money…
Right. Ok Gulfstream dudes, stop flexing.
I’m very glad I decided to walk even if my everything was screaming “Stay home all day”. I’m working 6 days this week, so my Self-Care Sunday definitely energized me for the week!
It was a sober day for me, just sparkling water and limes all day long. Oisin had a couple of beers while walking everywhere around the city with me.
We walked 5.4 miles total, left the house a bit after 6 pm, and got back home before 11 pm. We each spent less than $50 with bites and drinks.
Thanks for joining me!
